THE Chivi District leadership will next month hold a Zim-Asset conference to take stock of the progress made in the implementation of various projects across the district in line with the national economic blueprint.
More than 3000 delegates, including high-ranking Government officials and captains of industry, are expected to attend the conference set for August 5 at Chivi Growth Point.
In an interview with The Herald yesterday, Chivi Rural District Council chairperson Dr Killer Zivhu said the conference was aimed at demystifying Zim-Asset.
Dr Zivhu, who is also the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Housing Association (Zaha) director-general, said issues to be discussed at the conference include ways in which the community could benefit from Tokwe-Mukosi, the dualisation of the Harare-Beitbridge Road and farm ownership.
“We are going to hold Chivi Zim-Asset feedback conference where councillors, legislators and Senators, will be present at the meeting. We have 32 wards and each ward will be represented by 100 people. The conference is a feedback of what we have achieved as a district in line with Zim-Asset,” he said.
“Elected leaders should be transparent and accountable to the people. Zim-Asset is a good programme, but several politicians have pulled it down concentrating on petty issues. As a district, we will discuss challenges and come up with solutions.”
Dr Zivhu said instead of politicians spending their energy on factional fights, they should unite in implementing Zim-Asset for the betterment of the country. Dr Zivhu said the conference would also be a platform to engage informal traders in Chivi about the Statutory Instrument 24 and warn them against engaging illegal demons- rations.
Dr Zivhu said while the association was disgruntled by the import restrictions imposed by Government, the organisation had other ways of resolving the matter.“We need to take stock of what has been implemented and be able to address our challenges as Chivi.
The conference is very vital as it will map the way forward and appeal to donors on where we need assistance,’ he said. Dr Zivhu known for his philanthropic work, recently launched a nationwide campaign dubbed Zimba365 aimed at inculcating patriotism among Zimbabweans.
